Welcome! Origin of "Sigwood" and Development of the Sigwood Logo

Welcome to the Sigwood blog!

Hello everyone and welcome to Sigwood. My name is Hannah Gilmore and I am the artist and owner of Sigwood Pyrography.

Origin of "Sigwood"

The name Sigwood comes from my maiden name Consiglio. Many people have used the nickname "sig" or "sigs" for me and my family members. It was my husband Tim's suggestion to combine that with "wood" (for obvious reasons). It caught on right away because the name is catchy, has the right amount of earthy feel (subconsciously brings figs to mind), explains that Sigwood is primarily a wood art business.

Development of the Sigwood Logo

The development of my logo can be seen below. The initial designed of my logo was in all caps; each was hand-drawn, cut and pasted on the finished products. A friend of mine, Joshua Shaak, saw an opportunity to streamline my process by sticker-izing the logo, and thus the second logo was born; a digitalization of the original logo, that Joshua gifted to me. This was an important turning point for Sigwood because it helped me to have vision for Sigwood as a business endeavor. The last logo came about when I eventually ran out of product stickers and thought to add wood into the logo for a warmer, richer look. Maybe 2022 will see a new development  :)
